THE DIFFERENCE ENGINE
This organization works with non-traditional entry-level web developers, not students and provides them with real-life projects over a staggered seventeen-week program participation model. Apprentices work collaboratively within a team environment under the supervision and mentorship of experienced technology professionals. They offer solutions PRO BONO to qualified nonprofit or social organizations.
The Challenge
Re-design their existing website to make it more vibrant and dynamic to attract web developers for apprenticeship and clients who request web development projects.
Tasks
To redesign several key pages of the current website. Work closely with the Product Manager, and one designer, and design good user flow. Sketch (with pen and paper), design, create wireframes, hi-fidelity mockups, style guide using Sketch.
Style Guide
The style guide was then created as a resource for designers, product managers, and developers, providing a common language around websites’ user interface design patterns. We used Sketch to create a single page style guide. Click the image to enlarge it.

Next Steps
The next step for this project is to research and make changes based on the usability testing outcome, before handing off to a developer for implementation. The visual design aspect of UI design phase was to mainly refine the user-flow and provide a more dynamic aspect to the design. As UX Design is an on-going, iterative process; the interface will continue to evolve based on user feedback and testing.
